John S. Thalenfeld
John S. Thalenfeld, a long-time friend and donor of The Luzerne Foundation, passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2024. Born in Queens, New York, in 1956, John Thalenfeld worked his way up the ranks at Trion Industries, first in 1972 as a packer, to President and CEO. Being the son of David Thalenfeld, John learned first-hand experience working in the family’s five and dime store as a child, and later working directly under his father at the newly formed Trion Industries.
John was devoted to his family and to his community, serving on numerous charitable boards – most notably at the Family Service Association of Northeastern Pennsylvania. His intelligence, “can do” mentality and generosity made a difference in our community as he was named as the Philanthropist of the Year by the Association of Fundraising Professionals and honored by numerous nonprofits.
Donations to this fund will go to support the charities and causes that John held near to his heart.
